On October 26th, 2017, we had a unique visitor - Laurie McIntosh, a teacher from Father Lacombe Catholic School, Alberta.
Laurie has an exceptional teaching philosophy. She provides not only an inclusive classroom through her therapy pet program, but she has an amazing teaching philosophy about how to create a safe, caring, and collaborative classroom for her kindergarten students. ![]() What does an effect, student focused IPP/ISP provide? A well-articulated instructional and assessment plan will encourage an increased understanding of the individual learning needs and strengths so that all parties can grow in the learning process. An effective IPP/ISP enhances the communication between teachers, parents, and the student. For the student, an effective IPP/ISP builds the student's skills and knowledge so that they can be effective self-advocates of their own learning. In turn, this can prepare the family with transitions and long-term planning. FOCUS: Your student is the central focus of an IPPs & ISPs and the process of creating and implementing either an IPP or an ISP is my professional responsibility. Where to start?

Population Education is a program with a strong focus on curriculum development and professional development for K-12 teachers. Population Education focuses on a variety of human population issues.
The program is cross-curricular in many disciplines. In the lesson presentations I watched, I noted geography, economics, ecology, math, and history. The program encourages critical thinking on a global perspective, and it challenges us to think about how humans have shaped our planet. The program takes challenging subjects and presents them in a collaborative and cooperative manner. The materials are simple, yet highly effective. The materials are classroom adaptable and the stats are current. I really appreciated the graphing section. This application would be student-centred approach to introducing graphing skills at a young age. Population Education is definitely a leader of K-12 curriculum for student learning and for teachers to effectively teach about the effects of human population trends. I think that this education is one of the best ways to introduce the diverse effects that we have on our environments and our societies. For more information, visit www.populationeducation.org |
